2018 Clinical-Community Scholarship

One of the most important tenets of Transformative Growth Counseling Foundation’s mission, is to support the education of clinical mental health students while actively working to improve community health and wellbeing. While we offer clinical counseling, we are also a community agency that is an active agent in social justice and creating change – tasks that push forward equal rights and better overall health and wellbeing for all people. And, we’re looking for people just like us, to recognize and award!

Transformative Growth Counseling Foundation (a 501c3) offers a scholarship of up to $500 for students training or majoring in psychology or social work, with plans to use their degree beyond the typical private practice setting.  This scholarship is perfect for students who already know they want help improve the overall world around them.  The award is unrestricted, and may be used by the student to offset tuition, offset school expenses, to invest in further training in their field of study, to fund their future project, etc.

The scholarship will be awarded in August 2018 to one chosen scholar.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; with July 1st as the cut off date for the current year’s scholarship. The criteria listed below must be met, in order to be considered for the scholarship.

  1. Student must currently enrolled at an accredited higher learning institution, and majoring in mental health related field – e.g. Counseling, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, etc. Must be in a graduate program – (MA, MS, or PhD/PsyD/DSW)
  2. A GPA of 3.5 or higher  (Unofficial transcripts)
  3. Personal Statment (* see below)
  4. One reference letter from your institution, volunteer work, or training site.

Your personal statement should be at least 500 words. It should discuss how who you are, the education you are seeking, and how this ties into the community based work you are interested in. Further more, how you will use your education to improve  the community in which you live, serve or work. The essay should include a clear description of what community-health work or needed services that you have identified, and how one will use their education (and possible collaboration with others) to accomplish that service work, and how the scholarship will help you, in part, to get to that goal.  (This excludes offering counseling services in a private practice-type setting). Your essay maybe featured here, and could be announced in your school’s website or newsletter so, your submission should be well thought out, written in APA style, and ready to share with others!

There are no age restrictions, residency requirements, or proof of income required. There is never a fee to apply for our scholarship.

We do kindly ask that universities and colleges post the entire application information page (this page) or a direct link to this page, on their websites, for students to find. This is so that we may analyze if need is more in some schools, populations, regions, or areas of study, thus increasing further funding in later years.
